about the milton market

Milton sits on SH1 at the core of the Bruce Ward in the Clutha District, at the hub of highways connecting North, South and Central Otago. Milton is great place for a weekly market, it's on the way to everywhere.

Milton’s main landmark is the gothic-inspired Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church which was built in the 1880’s and has category one listed status with Heritage New Zealand. The eye-catching historic church is open to visit, during market hours.

The church yard provides a lovely sheltered setting for the weekly market which has an eclectic mix of stalls. Some stalls are at the market every weekend, like the sausage sizzle featuring Milton-made beef sausages. There is always a variety of stalls: handcrafts, new and secondhand goods. You never know what you might find.

Please bring cash, most stalls rely on cash, because often it's someone's hobby, or house de-clutter, or community fundraiser. Don't worry, if you forget, Milton has two ATMs a short distance from the market, and lots of coffee shops.

Milton is a town with a passionate community boasting great independent shops from a butcher to quirky second-hand stores. It's an ideal place to take a break in your journey.

If the weather gets bad, too windy or wet, the market is held in the spacious gym behind the church. The market is held every Saturday morning, rain or shine, unless there is an unexpected need for a cancellation (which will be advised on Facebook and local media outlets).
